PEGI begins re-rating existing digital games with loot boxes to 16

PEGI has started re-rating existing digital-only games with paid random items such as loot boxes from PEGI 3, 7 or 12 to PEGI 16, under the label PEGI 16 - Paid random items. GRA policy manager Connor Hinde said on LinkedIn that the UK body began applying the updated criteria to some existing digital games last week, whether they were originally rated through PEGI Classic or IARC. The changes roll out progressively through October, and the GRA directs publishers with questions to the PEGI Helpdesk.
