Nintendo of America awarded $4.5m in lawsuit from Redditor for pirating Switch hardware and software
Nintendo of America won $4.5 million in damages from Reddit user James C. Williams, known as Archbox, after the court entered a default judgment because he did not respond to the lawsuit. The ruling requires him to shut down online shops offering pirated Nintendo Switch games and close piracy-linked social media accounts, and bars him from distributing or selling Nintendo software and hardware. Nintendo of America began legal action in March 2024 and filed the lawsuit in June, setting damages at $4.5 million in October; earlier this month the District Court of The Hague ruled that selling Switch modding kits such as MIG Switch is illegal in Europe.
