Lego Pokémon bosses talk the divisive Smart Brick, sets for adult fans, and what's next

At the 2026 Pokémon World Championships & Pokémon XP in San Francisco, Lego design director Siddharth Muthyala and senior interaction designer Mike Kirk Andersen discussed the fan-dividing Smart Brick, adult-focused sets, and the future of Lego Pokémon. The Smart Brick contains a synthesizer rather than recorded audio, so each Pokémon sound is generated live and differs slightly every time. The team also said the debut Pokémon lineup was chosen through playtests with several hundred children, and a set featuring Rayquaza and Zinnia has recently been released.
