Modern Warfare 4 launched without the open matchmaking option offered in Black Ops 7, and players are unsure whether a persistent lobby option means open matchmaking is active. Skill-based matchmaking has been default since 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, with players feeling it more after algorithms tightened from the 2019 reboot onward.
