BioWare's Knights Of The Old Republic Entirely Changed My Understanding Of What Games Could Be

BioWare's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic gave the author his first experience of a game filled with so many possibilities and directions to choose from. On Taris, side quests let the player decide whether to help the poor or extort the clinic, and a 2009 replay revealed how thoroughly evil the choices could get. These well-written optional asides, which players could ignore entirely, were astonishing in 2003.
