Researcher demonstrates a software-only partial Switch 2 jailbreak with homebrew access

Security researcher Sammy Hajhamid, known online as Pepsipu, demonstrated a software-only partial jailbreak of the Switch 2 that grants userland access to run homebrew, reverse engineer and mod Switch 2 games, back up saves, and reach most peripherals through MMIO. The tethered method relies on the original Switch version of SmileBasic 4 and a macOS or Linux PC on the same network running a node.js package. He said he used OpenAI Codex to build a testing harness and found a 32-bit integer overflow in SmileBasic after about two weeks, then used a buffer overflow in the FileSystem services module to gain arbitrary read and write and native code execution, showing modded characters in Mario Kart World as proof of concept.
