M-Vave has released FM1 Open, an SDK, a browser-based workbench, and open v15 stock firmware for its $59.72 FM-1 pocket synth, inviting owners to build custom firmware. The device has 27 piano keys and a 1.54-inch TFT display, and community firmware projects already include versions that run Doom. Flashing custom firmware requires updating to stock v15 first and backing up data, since an interrupted update can leave the unit difficult to recover.
