Eurogamer published a Dawn of War 4 preview after dozens of hours of hands-on time, calling it possibly the most generous RTS the author has played. The piece also includes an interview with game director Jan Theysen.

Eurogamer's Chris Tapsell played Dawn of War 4's campaign and skirmish modes and calls it the most generous RTS he has played. The game has four sub-campaigns, each said by developer King Art Games to be longer than the entire original Dawn of War campaign, with at least one branching choice in each; Tapsell finished the Ork and Adeptus Mechanicus ones. Campaign missions can be skipped with one button, skirmishes offer nine general, eight economy and eight combat settings, and right-click-and-drag targeting plus automatic ability use reduce the load on players.
