Civilization 7 creative director Ed Beach said the Test of Time update, which made age transitions optional and restored traditional single-civ play, was "personally challenging" because it wasn't part of the game's original vision. The update responded to veteran fans who disliked the age-transition mechanic at launch. Firaxis is now working on a new update timed to the game's first DLC, Earthrise.
