VBoy Color Emulator Brings Full-Color Display to Virtual Boy

A new emulator experiment, VBoy Color, uses a tile-based palette system to display many more distinct colors per Virtual Boy frame instead of simply swapping the console's four shades of red for four other colors. Its game-specific Color Packs assign a separate four-color palette to each 8x8 tile, letting it distinguish objects like green pipes, grey platforms, and red brick walls in Mario Clash. The Game Boy Color-esque results particularly help games like Jack Bros. and Vertical Force, where the original red-on-red display made it hard to tell the player character from busy red backgrounds.
