Double Fine's Thank You Bus Driver: The Fun Isn't in the Destination or the Journey, but in Slapping Disobedient Passengers

Thank You Bus Driver is Double Fine's new comedy public transport sim, a roughly three-hour game in which you play both driver and disciplinarian, leaving your seat to slap passengers who break the bus rules. Thank Yous are the only currency that matters, and the game mixes randomised stops, passenger behaviour and vaguely roguelike item upgrades, though every run uses the same bus, small town and handful of rules.

Double Fine's first game since being dropped by Xbox, Thank You Bus Driver, launches October 14

Double Fine announced that Thank You Bus Driver, its first game since being dropped by Xbox, will launch on October 14 for Steam, GOG, and Itch.io, and is now available to wishlist. The driving sim is described by the studio as Crazy Taxi meets Papers, Please, and is published under Double Fine Action Labs, a label for experimental games. CEO Tim Schafer said such titles are complete but rough, scrappy, and small, meant to be cheap and played in shorter sessions, and not something like Psychonauts 3.

Double Fine announces Thank You Bus Driver, coming to PC on 14 October

Double Fine announced that its new game Thank You Bus Driver will launch on PC storefronts including Steam, GOG and Itch.io on 14 October. It is the studio's first release since splitting from Xbox this summer and the debut title of its new Double Fine Action Labs label for weird, little games. The black-and-white bus driving sim has players ferry passengers within a time limit and slap them to enforce rules. Xbox's restructuring has spun off five first-party studios and plans to lay off around 3,200 staff by next summer, with Double Fine cutting a quarter of its own workforce.
