Macronix Is Exiting the ROM Business, Potentially Affecting Future Nintendo Switch Physical Releases

Industry analyst David Gibson says Macronix, one of Nintendo's longtime game card suppliers, is gradually exiting the ROM business and will no longer develop new ROM chips. ROM products accounted for just 5% of Macronix's Q3 2026 revenue, down from 26% a year earlier, as the company shifts capacity toward NOR, eMMC, and NAND memory.
