Queen's Domain, a King's Field Homage, Is Already One of My Favourite Games This Year After Five Hours
Before Dark Souls there was King's Field, and five hours into brilliant homage Queen's Domain, it's already one of my favourite games this year
Brief
Freshly Baked Games' Queen's Domain is a first-person retro-fantasy action RPG that explicitly pays homage to FromSoftware's long-dormant King's Field series, following Prince Beriik as he searches for his missing father on a mysterious island. Its lo-fi low-poly visuals, deliberately labyrinthine interconnected island and Metroidvania-style traversal unlocks anchor an intentionally rudimentary combat system. About five hours in, the author already counts it among his favourite games this year.
