The boss battle music in Phantom Blade Zero blends Chinese folk instruments such as the guqin with contemporary techniques including Trap, Ambient and Glitch. The Hu Qianxiao fight uses guqin slides to echo the character's "drunken sword" moves, while the Bride Ahua battle track builds Chinese horror through vocal chants and glitch effects. The battle track "New Year Ahua" and the bonus track "Ghost Sedan Chair" are two different pieces, and producer Liang Qiwei has described the game's style as "wuxia punk."
