Resident Evil Developer Capcom Issues Phishing Warning After Data Breach Hits Over 11 Million Customer Accounts
Capcom disclosed that a third party accessed its Capcom ID online membership service, affecting 11.7 million email address records worldwide, including account creation and last login times, login counts and last-login IP addresses. Of these, 43 records involved date of birth, gender, country or region and nickname, and 196 accounts had their login passwords changed without authorization and have since been reset. Capcom said user-created passwords and credit card information were not leaked, does not expect its games to be affected, reported the incident to Osaka Prefectural Police and Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission, and warned users about links and attachments in suspicious emails.
