Toei Animation Tried To Cancel Its Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime, So Weekly Shonen Jump Threatened To Pull Its Dragon Ball License
Brief
Production planner Yoshiro Kataoka recalled that Toei Animation cancelled its 27-episode 1998 Yu-Gi-Oh! anime but refused to return the adaptation rights. At a 1999 meeting, Weekly Shonen Jump editor-in-chief Kazuhiko Torishima threatened to revoke all secondary usage rights for Dragon Ball, and Toei relented, leading to the TV Tokyo-produced Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters.
