Japan Actors Union announces guidelines on unauthorised generative AI voice replication

The Japan Actors Union has announced guidelines addressing unauthorised use of generative AI to replicate voice performances. The framework requires prior consent at every stage, treats AI-replicated performances as new performances requiring additional royalties, and limits replication of deceased actors' voices to lifetime permission plus family and agency consent. It also covers AI automatic translation, which must preserve the original performance's artistic integrity and requires permission for overseas use.
