Report: Ninja Theory lays off workers after failing to spin off from Xbox
Ninja Theory is reportedly laying off workers after Xbox leadership could not find a way to keep the studio running, either under Xbox or separately, according to a LinkedIn post from a developer there cited by VGC. The studio was acquired by Microsoft in 2018 as a first-party Xbox Game Studios developer for $117 million, per FTC filings. In July, Xbox announced 3,200 job cuts and named Ninja Theory and Undead Labs as studios to be spun off; Undead Labs completed its divestiture, while Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty said last month that efforts to find a buyer for Ninja Theory fell through. Game Developer has reached out to Xbox for comment.
