Sony says PlayStation 6 development is on schedule as PS5 sales reach 97.9 million

Sony CFO Lin Tao said on the company's latest earnings call that development of the next PlayStation platform is progressing as scheduled, with Sony aiming to prepare for it in the fiscal year starting April 2027. Sony sold 2.6 million PS5 consoles in the three months ended September 30, bringing lifetime sales to 97.9 million, while game sales rose 9% and operating income 89% year on year. Sony said it offset higher memory costs through promotions, pricing and cost cuts, and has aligned memory quantities with suppliers for the next fiscal year.
