Rockstar "confident" GTA 7 won't take another eight years, despite similar promises around Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar development leads Phil Hooker and Aaron Garbut told Bloomberg they are confident the engine, tools and team built during GTA 6 will let future games be made more quickly, going "more sideways than upwards" rather than taking another eight years. Garbut said the foundational changes are done and won't be ripped apart. The same report notes that Rockstar previously mobilized most of the studio, including senior leadership, to finish Red Dead Redemption 2, pushing GTA 6 back several years.
