Canadian politician calls for government bailout of Mass Effect developer BioWare

Avi Lewis, leader of Canada's New Democratic Party, called on social media for the government to save Mass Effect developer BioWare. On October 21, EA announced a strategy shift and restructuring that closed BioWare in Edmonton, with a reported 400 job losses and about 50 people working on the next Mass Effect cut. Lewis tied the closure to the $55 billion EA acquisition approved in December 2025 and said developers should get federal support to buy and run the studio themselves.
