DirectX Update Could Cut Ray Tracing Memory Usage by Up to 90%

Ray tracing memory usage could be reduced by up to 90% thanks to 'most significant' DirectX update

Brief

Microsoft is previewing two DirectX features, Clustered Geometry and Partitioned TLAS, which it calls the most significant update to DXR since its 2018 debut. In Microsoft's own testing on an AMD Radeon RX 9070, ray tracing memory use dropped from 7.5 GB to 774 MB while frame rates rose from 1.2 fps to 79 fps. The update is not yet widely available, and not all games are expected to match those results.
