GameMaker to make GMRT free for commercial use in January 2027

GameMaker announced that its next-generation runtime GMRT will be free for commercial use from January 1, 2027, letting developers build and distribute games on desktop, mobile, web, and GX Games at no cost. The company said the streamlined licensing model removes the need for a professional license and includes source code access across every tier, with tier pricing unchanged. Exporting to consoles still requires an enterprise license and approved developer status.
