Activision confirms a new Call of Duty sub-series is coming

Activision chief marketing officer Tyler Bahl confirmed that a new Call of Duty sub-series is on the way, saying the groundwork has already been laid. He said the community wanted something fresh, and that tonal shift is what players were looking for. Treyarch previously teased it is working on something nobody has experienced before, while Sledgehammer Games is reportedly handling 2027's Call of Duty, which may also introduce a new sub-series; the last non-Black Ops or Modern Warfare entry was 2021's Vanguard from Sledgehammer. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2, with preorders unlocking campaign early access on October 16 and DMZ mode on October 20.
