Can Blizzard break the StarCraft sequel curse?

At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard announced an open-world shooter set in the StarCraft universe with a release date in 2030. The article recounts how StarCraft: Ghost was shelved in 2006 and confirmed cancelled in 2014, and how the Overwatch-engine project Ares was cancelled in 2019, while also reviewing the state of StarCraft 2, Stormgate and ZeroSpace. The new game is led by creative director Dan Hay, a former Far Cry producer, and is built around a single-player story set 70 years after the events of Legacy of the Void.
