Intel Brings Faster Upscaler to Valve's Proton: XMX-Accelerated XeSS Could Come to SteamOS

Intel has opened pull requests to add Intel XeSS support to Valve's Proton, allowing XeSS to use the faster XMX path on Intel GPUs instead of the slower fallback. Intel engineer Damian Tomczak said the request adds a builtin libxess.dll that forwards XeSS D3D12 calls to the Linux XeSS library. If Proton and SteamOS add further support, Windows-based Intel handheld gaming PCs could switch to Linux without performance drops.
