EA lays off 400 and reshuffles its lineup, cancelling the new Mass Effect and closing BioWare

EA is cutting 400 jobs in its first major round of layoffs after the sale, and an internal email lists the projects it will still fund, including more Battlefield, Apex Legends, a new DICE and Respawn shooter, Star Wars Jedi 3, Marvel's Iron Man, EA Sports FC, Project Gridiron and Project Evergreen. The highest-profile cancellation is the upcoming Mass Effect game, which also closes BioWare after roughly 30 years; that team was about 50 people, around 12.5 percent of the layoffs. EA is also scaling back the Skate team at Full Circle and pausing The Sims' Project Lotus so Maxis can work on Project Evergreen.
