Report says EA closed BioWare after choosing Star Wars Battlefront 3 over Mass Effect 5

Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the company's strategy, that EA closed BioWare because it had to pick between two sci-fi projects and chose Star Wars Battlefront 3 as a less risky, more predictable bet than a new Mass Effect. The report said EA, carrying $18bn in debt from a recent leveraged buyout, could not fund both, and that work on Battlefront 3 had not even begun. An EA spokesperson said the decision followed months of planning, review and analysis, and the report also cited BioWare's recent track record and an executive reshuffle.
