Capcom to evolve in-house RE Engine for "the AI generation", to help with development, testing, and checking for bugs

Capcom plans to transform its in-house RE Engine into an "AI-generation game engine" as part of an overhaul called the REX Project, programmer Satoshi Ishida said at Capcom Open Conference RE:2026. The project bundles new systems including RE:Dox, RE:UI, RE:Log, RE:Flows, RE:Runtime and RE:C++, aiming for an engine where AI can understand and generate code, run automated test plays to catch bugs, and support development directly. RE Engine has been in development since 2014, debuted in Resident Evil 7 in 2017, and is now used by over 2,000 developers.

Dan Houser still hasn't seen GTA 6: 'I will try and avoid it'

Rockstar Games co-founder and former GTA writer Dan Houser says he still hasn't watched Grand Theft Auto 6's extended reveal and will try to avoid it so it doesn't disrupt him creatively. He said he doesn't play many open-world games because he deconstructs teams' strengths and weaknesses in real time. Houser left Rockstar in 2020 to found Absurd Ventures, which is working on two open-world games, one a comedy action-adventure and the other "definitely less of a comedy".

Capcom unveils REX plan to gradually turn the RE Engine into an AI-generation game engine

At its Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026 on October 2, Capcom announced the REX project, a multi-step effort to improve the RE Engine with the long-term goal of turning it into an AI-generation game engine. Programmer Satoshi Ishida cited three development problems, including the time cost of large games, the need for an engine that is easy for a growing staff to use, and integrating AI into development workflows. REX unifies the RE Engine under a common programming language, with some improvements open-sourced for AI training; Capcom said at a March 2026 shareholders meeting that it will not put AI-generated assets into its games but will use AI to improve development efficiency.

Netflix Says Cloud Gaming Makes More Sense For It In A 'Post-Console World'

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said at Bloomberg's Screentime event that the company will still be in games five years from now, but mostly through cloud gaming, calling mobile gaming a gateway to it. He framed a "post-console world" as offering all kinds of opportunities for gaming on the television, with the phone as a remote, and said he likes gaming for IP extension and brand value. Sarandos also signaled limited appetite for acquisitions, saying Netflix has been a builder from scratch and will grow primarily organically, games included.

Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said on the company's FY 2026 earnings call that demand will exceed supply in both 2027 and 2028, with the supply-demand environment only getting tighter. GTA 6 Should "Blaze A Trail" to More Expensive Games, Warhorse Co-Founder Says

Warhorse co-founder Martin Klima told PC Gamer he hopes GTA 6 will lead the way on higher game prices so other teams can follow. He said price increases are "long overdue and also necessary for this business to survive," but that "everybody's scared to death" to make the first move. GTA 6's standard edition is priced at $80, and Klima said Rockstar and Take-Two are among the few companies that can "afford, or who can dare" to raise prices.

The creator of the Total War: Warhammer 3 mod SFO: Grimhammer 3 has deliberately corrupted the mod to stop unauthorised reuploads, particularly those involving AI. Creator Venris said on Patreon that the mod will be made private if the situation escalates, and that updates will still release on Steam as always, with no paywall. The SFO mods aim to make the Warhammer games more lore-friendly while keeping battles entertaining, and the last update before this one was called Call of Bretonnia.

Micron CEO says memory shortages will get worse in 2027

According to The Register, Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said memory demand will exceed supply in 2027 and 2028, with the industry tighter than in 2026, and customers likely paying much higher prices than this year. Micron plans $25 billion in capital expenditure in the first half of its new financial year to bring new factories online in 2028, but says it will take time before supply and demand stabilise. The surge in memory demand comes largely from AI data centres, and Nintendo has already raised Switch 2 prices globally while Sony and Microsoft raised prices for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
