In a memo shared publicly after closing BioWare and laying off 400 people, EA said it is developing an American football experience called Project Gridiron, described as a "social-first open-world experience." The mode is seen as borrowing from NBA 2K's The City, which demands patience, an authentic voice, and community goodwill—qualities EA Sports has historically lacked. The memo was attributed to chief studios officer Cam Weber and chief operating officer David Tinson.
