Skate developer responds to viral ReSkate modding platform, promises more official creative tools

Full Circle, the developer of Skate, published a statement on October 9 addressing community mods after the fan-made modding platform ReSkate went viral. ReSkate lets players play offline, run private servers and build their own maps, and has been downloaded over 350,000 times on GitHub. Full Circle said it supports community creativity but opposes mods that bypass systems to unlock paid cosmetics, release unreleased content or profit from it, and said it is building official, secure creation tools with more news to come later. Skate's active player count peaked above 7,000 on October 5, its highest in months since the game launched in September 2025.

Analyst Says Gears of War: E-Day's Strong Reviews Haven't Translated to Big Sales

Analytics firm Alinea Analytics estimates Gears of War: E-Day sold about 230,000 copies during its early-access period, roughly 168,000 on Steam and 62,000 across Xbox console and PC, with most players instead using Xbox Game Pass. The game launched Oct. 6 on Xbox Series X and PC and holds an 88 on Metacritic and an 87 on OpenCritic. Alinea analyst Rhys Elliott says it drew about 1.7 million Game Pass players, including an estimated 722,000 who paid $30 for the Premium Edition upgrade to play five days early, figures Microsoft has not confirmed.

Gears of War: E-Day reportedly draws over 1.7m Game Pass players and over $37m in revenue

Estimates from Alinea Analytics' Rhys Elliott put Gears of War: E-Day at around 230,000 copies sold since its advance-access release earlier this month, with 168,000 on Steam and 62,000 on Xbox consoles and PC. About 1.7m Game Pass subscribers played the game, and more than 722,000 of them bought the $30 Premium Edition upgrade. Including pure sales, microtransactions and those upgrades, revenue is said to exceed $37m.

Wardogs Dev Explains Blue Team's Lower Win Rate, Details Season 2 Balance Changes

Wardogs developer Bulkhead confirmed that the blue team, Lonestar, wins less often than the other teams and is addressing it in Season 2, launching next week. Co-founder Howard Philpott said Lonestar's win rate was about 10% in alpha and has risen to nearly 20% recently, but players still favor the red and green teams because of blue's poor reputation. Season 2 moves all three teams' spawns and rebuilds bases on the Bakurani map, adjusts Lonestar uniform saturation, adds cash and XP bonuses for playing and winning as Lonestar, and places recruitment posters in other teams' spawns. Wardogs Season 2 launches on October 15.

Analyst Estimates Gears of War: E-Day Sold 230,000 Copies as Game Pass Players Reach 1.7 Million

Data firm Alinea Analytics estimates Gears of War: E-Day has sold about 230,000 copies, with 168,000 on Steam and 62,000 across Xbox console and PC, while 1.7 million players accessed it through Game Pass. Alinea's Rhys Elliott argues Game Pass is cannibalizing premium revenue, noting 722,000 players paid $30 for the Premium Edition upgrade to play five days early and estimating roughly $37 million in revenue, $26 million of it from Xbox. The estimates have not been corroborated by Microsoft, and Elliott concludes Microsoft may have to pull day-one first-party releases from the service, as it announced for Call of Duty earlier this year.

Wardogs season 2 adds a gambling system that lets players bet on their own performance

Wardogs season 2 launches after a game-wide progress wipe on October 15th and adds a gambling system where players can bet on their own performance through a new Wager Vendor, choosing extra restrictions to raise the payout. The season also brings new weapons and vehicles including a high-capacity SMG, molotov cocktails and a tracked AA gun, plus buildable machine gun nests and shelters, and a thundery rainfall weather preset that lowers visibility and masks footsteps. Developer Bulkhead says a friends queue option is not part of this update, while the blue team Lonestar gets moved faction HQs, desaturated outfit colours and cash and XP bonuses throughout the season.

WoW: Forever dev says 'there's a real longing for that slower, more deliberate pace' in MMOs: 'A deliberate pushback on this go go go nature'

World of Warcraft: Forever associate production director Clay Stone says there's a real longing for a slower, more deliberate pace in MMOs, calling it a deliberate pushback on the "go go go" nature. He pointed to the success of Classic, the 2023 response to Hardcore, and players who skipped Season of Discovery because seasons felt ephemeral. Stone says Blizzard is deliberately building WoW Forever to answer whether it's too late to start with an emphatic "no."

Blizzard dev says WoW: Forever's scope snowballed: 'Our original pitch internally was: We'll do 4 new dungeons'

World of Warcraft: Forever's content scope grew during development, with associate production director Clay Stone saying the team's original internal pitch was four new dungeons before it became six and then nine. He said the response to Season of Discovery, shipped in November 2023, led to discussions about a non-season version, and that appetite within the team and Blizzard built the launch scope beyond what players expected.

Blizzard refuses to let World of Warcraft: Forever's dungeons become the fastest way to grind XP: 'We need to hold firm on these balance adjustments'

Blizzard announced tweaks to dungeon XP in World of Warcraft: Forever, raising the XP from killing dungeon monsters slightly but not back to WoW Classic levels. The developers said they want Azeroth to be the "main character" and don't want players spending their entire leveling experience in caves, so dungeon cleaving to 60 won't be the optimal way to level.

Rainbow Six Mobile Gets a January 15, 2027 Shutdown Date Less Than a Year After Full Release

Ubisoft announced on the game's official X account on October 8 that Rainbow Six Mobile will shut down on January 15, 2027, with the next season still launching as planned next week. First announced in 2022, the game ran betas through 2023 and 2024, was delayed to 2025, launched in Latin America and then globally on February 23, 2026, and drew millions of downloads on Android and iOS without holding players. Reviews cited operators locked behind paywalls and heavy grinding, while another Ubisoft mobile spin-off, The Division Resurgence, has fared little better.

From Minecraft Survival Games to Fortnite: How Live-Service Turned Games Into a Battle Royale for the Top Spot

IGN traces the history of live-service games, noting the battle royale market was valued at $11.2 billion last year and is expected to reach nearly $30 billion by 2035. Norwegian YouTuber Dennis Vaeride is credited with launching the first Minecraft Survival Games server in April 2012, while Brendan Greene's shrinking-circle concept led to PUBG's Steam Early Access launch in March 2017 and Fortnite's free-to-play battle royale mode later that year. Ex-BioWare producer Mark Darrah says you have to believe you can dethrone one of the top two players in the genre, or you shouldn't be doing it.

Live-Service Games Keep Getting Cancelled — Is This the Beginning of the End?

15 of the 19 major live-service games launched in 2025 had lost over 80% of their initial playerbase by the end of January this year. Veteran developers say enough cancellations and shutdowns have created a trust issue among players.

Arc Raiders Frozen Trails hands-on: the grapple hook is the highlight, the skill tree rework is not yet transformative

A PC Gamer writer spent 3 hours with the Arc Raiders Frozen Trails update and spent most of it using the new grapple hook. The green tier gadget can climb buildings, swing between rooftops, descend safely, stick to almost anything, and be redeployed midair with no cooldown or use limit, allowing chained swings. The update also adds a launcher that tethers two objects and a grenade that yanks Arc bots to the ground, which the writer did not test thoroughly. The reworked skill tree mixes old and new abilities with mutually exclusive branches, and the writer found most nodes to be incremental stat boosts that do not change play in the short term, while the new Pendola Pass map feels visually distinct for its snow but familiar in the areas they visit most.
